Minor Alopecia

Alopecia is the exaggerated and abnormal loss or fall of hair.
It is common for some people to lose hair quickly and in large quantities due to the following causes:
- After childbirth.
- During severe illnesses, especially those that cause high fever.
- With the suspension of hormonal treatment.
- During episodes of emotional stress.
- Hemorrhages.
- Taking certain medications.

This phenomenon is known as telogen effluvium. It consists of a transient increase in hair loss in the telogen phase that clinically manifests as an increase in daily hair loss.

How do I do it?

The procedure can be done with local anesthesia with sedation, tumescent infiltration of the occipital area is performed, an ellipse is designed (the size will be made according to the particular needs of each patient) and the cut is made up to the subgaleal plane, then this ellipse is taken to the microscope and the design and cut of the follicular units is done, the excess fat is removed and the recipient area is prepared for implantation, infiltration of the recipient area is performed, the implantation holes are designed with a scalpel blade or laser and the follicular units are implanted, this implantation must be done with an appropriate angle, depth and distance.
Primary closure of the donor area is performed, the patient is discharged the same day, wearing a cap for 3 days, after which time he or she can wash his or her hair with regular shampoo.
The patient must be informed that the grafted hair will initially undergo a period of growth, then after 3 weeks it will undergo a period of loss and after 3 months it will undergo a new growth process, in which the final results can be established.
In general, it is a fairly satisfactory technique, with predictable and adequate results, and one that plastic surgeons should be familiar with, given that it is a procedure that has shown an exponential increase in requests in recent years.
